The epic content creation tussle continues at the forefront of streaming TV.  Netflix and Amazon continue to snap up premium content in an attempt to lure subscribers, sometimes paying a premium price for it too as Amazon did with Lord Of The Rings.

Now we hear Apple has picked up the rights to a TV series adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation trilogy.

Skydance Television are in the driving seat with David S. Goyer somehow continuing to get work, supported by Josh Friedman, the man behind War of the Worlds & Emerald City.

First published way back in 1942 as a series of short stories in Astounding Magazine, they have since been sold as both individual novels and several combined anthologies.  They are regarded as a cornerstone of sci-fi.

Foundation is a sprawling tale of humans who have taken to the stars.  They live on planets throughout the galaxy under the rule of the Galactic Empire.

The story follows a psycho-historian who has an ability to read the future and foresees the empire’s imminent collapse. He sets out to save the knowledge of mankind from being wiped out.

Several aborted attempts to make a movie from the trilogy have been made.  HBO also tried. Hollywood talent from Roland Emmerich to Jonathan Nolan have been defeated by this subject material.

Will Executive Producers David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross have any more luck?

What do you guys think?
