Disney sure knows how to market a movie. Behold, the teaser trailer for their terrific tale of a tiny, timid elephant, Dumbo, directed by Tim Burton:
I can’t lie: I got chills. Mostly thinking about how my four-year-old little girl is going to go bananas for this movie.
Chillin’ Like A Shillin’
But then again, I got the same chills, for the same reason, when I saw the initial teaser for Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. That piano, slowly plinking out the theme song…
Yet that movie was about as engaging and memorable as digging a hole in dry dirt. My little girl cares nothing about it, while the original animated movie is a regular watch for her.
Abandon Madness For Reason
We shall see what Burton and Co. can cook up. I still don’t know what the hell happened to the Tim Burton I knew and loved, and this movie makes no sense other than to suppose that he wasn’t busy and needed a paycheck.
This is just running up the score on ticket sales:
However, this image below makes me want to see the movie just for the pink elephant sequence alone:
That scene in the original movie fascinated and terrified me as a kid. I’m expecting something special here, Mr. Burton.
Marketing?
Did I just say that Disney knows how to market a movie? So what happened with The Last Jedi and Solo?
Oh, yeah. Kathy Kennedy.
Adiós, amigos y amiguitas!
