The Many Saints Of Newark Announce Some Characters

Earlier this year Film Goblin reported that David Chase’s Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints Of Newark, had been greenlit.

This summer Alan Taylor, who directed several episodes of the show, had signed on to direct the film said to be set during the race riots that took place in New Jersey during the late-60s.

Casting is almost complete, and we have got our Goblin paws on detailed synopsis about some of the film’s lead characters.

Young Tony

Tony is a first generation 9-year old boy with a passion for the Yankees. The film will follow Tony to age 16 where he is described as a “budding linebacker” with long hair and bellbottoms.

This setting will find Tony’s father, Johnny Boy, and his Uncle Junior in their primes working under Dominic DiMeo, the original Boss of the DiMeo Family that Tony eventually led.

Dickie Moltisanti

A foot soldier for the DiMeo family, Dickie was a minor character in the series, but it was his death and subsequent absence that lead Tony to take in and mentor Dickie’s young son, Christopher. In this film, Dickie is described as Tony’s uncle.

Aldo Moltisanti

Aldo Moltisanti is an entirely new character. Described as an “elegant wiseguy” in his mid-60s, and is newly married to 24-year-old Giuseppina Bruno.

The Many Saints Of Newark seems to be getting itself together.

The Sopranos ran for six seasons from 1999 to 2007, putting HBO on the map and set the bar for DVD sales of popular TV shows.

It won 21 Primetime Emmy Awards and five Golden Globes and in the process made stars of its leading names, particularly the much-missed James Gandolfini and Edie Falco, who played his wife Carmela, as well as a host of other actors.
