Well Too Bad

It’s coming anyway.

Pre-production for Scream 5 is officially underway which makes sense as, besides spawning a loosely connected television show that lasted three seasons, the Scream movies have grossed over $600 million.

Few details are known at the moment but the story will revolve around:

A woman returning to her hometown to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.

This needless entry into a best left dead series was pretty much inevitable after Spyglass Media Group acquired the rights to the franchise in the fallout from the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Weinstein’s Dimension Films had been behind the first four movies.

Whether this will be a continuation of the Scream universe is unclear and will likely depend on who, if any of the original stars they can attract back to the franchise.

Who Else Is Involved So Far?

Kevin Williamson, who penned all four of the previous Scream movies, is also on board as an executive producer.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (V/H/S, Southbound) have signed on to direct. The had some notable success with 2019’s Ready or Not which made $57 million from a $6 million budget.

Brave

Wes Craven, who passed away in 2015, directed all four of the previous entries into the franchise.

Though no casting has been but confirmed both David Arquette, who played Dewey the clever dumb Sheriff and Neve Campbell, the plucky heroine Sidney Prescott, have both expressed interest in returning.

Any Sydney will do
