In & Out

In unexpected news, this morning we hear that Idris Elba will no longer be appearing in The Suicide Squad as Deadshot.

Elba had been expected to take over from Will Smith due to scheduling conflicts preventing Smith from taking part. There was also news that this would be a soft-reboot now that James Gunn, fired then reinstated Guardians Of The Galaxy director over at Marvel, was in the big chair.

More Returnees?

However it now seems that Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn, and Jai Courtney will also be back as Captain Boomerang.  Joel Kinnaman’s Randall Flagg and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller are also now likely returning.

Elba is rumoured to still take part, just not as Deadshot.  This is said to be because of respect for Will Smith and to leave the door open to Smith filming a cameo or returning to the role in future instalments.

DCEU Reborn?

So are the WB finally sorting their DC shit out?  Buoyed (excuse the pun!) by Aquaman box office, high expectations for Wonder Woman 1984 and Shazam! strong reviews with a confirmed Superman cameo are they about to finally make the DCEU start to succeed?

Word out of Hollywood is that the script for The Suicide Squad is trademark Gunn and very, very good.  Does his Guardians success and reinstatement over at Marvel give him the clout to resist the customary Warner Bros. tinkering retardation that generally ruins well-intentioned efforts to make the DCEU coherent and successful?
