James Franco’s Lost Movie To Hit In September

James Franco’s Zeroville is finally hitting theaters after spending the last four years in development hell.

The movie, which sold its rights to Alchemy in 2015 before that company went bankrupt, has finally found a new home with the myCinema digital content distribution system.

Zeroville became embroiled in financial issues with Alchemy and was then left in limbo until myCinema picked it up.

Zeroville is based on Steve Erickson’s 2007 novel and follows the story of Vikar, played by Franco, and his journey to become a big-shot Hollywood actor in 1969. As he traverses the streets of LA, he meets a number of characters including eccentric tour guide Viking Man (Seth Rogen), production president Mitch Rondell (Will Ferrell), veteran actress Dotty (Jacki Weaver), the sneaky Financier (Danny McBride) and femme fatale Soleded (Megan Fox).

The usual suspects make cameo appearances in the film, with younger brother Dave Franco playing Montgomery Clift and Horatio Sanz as Francis Ford Coppola. Craig Robinson and Joey King also join the cast.

There’s still no trailer, but there is this preview on YouTube:

The lengthy synopsis reads:

“Join Vikar (James Franco), a wide-eyed innocent in love with the movies, on one wicked trip to the heart of a pulsating, kaleidoscopic Hollywood. A naïve newcomer to the City of Angels, carrying nothing but his ‘outsider’ past and a huge tattoo of Montgomery Clift & Elizabeth Taylor inked on his shaved skull; driven by the allure of cinema to the glittering temptations of Zeroville; a town where anything goes. Encounter the parasites, the punks, the wannabes, the power-brokers and the crazies: meet Viking Man (Seth Rogen) — gatekeeper to all the right parties, a cigar-chomping surf hippie; Vikar’s eccentric Hollywood guide. You’ll encounter: foul-mouthed industry veteran Dotty (Jacki Weaver); the sinister Financier (Danny McBride); sexy femme fatale Soledad (Megan Fox) — a haunted ‘dame,’ the electric charge to trigger Vikar’s breathtaking dive into the captivating world where movies are made.”

Zeroville is scheduled for a September release.
