Tommy Wiseau’s The Room is often cited as the Citizen Kane of bad movies. A film so legendarily awful that James Franco turned the making of it into an Oscar-nominated film.

Film Goblin’s favorite actress, Brie Larson, won an Academy Award for starring in a film titled Room not too long ago.

Apparently the people at Shudder, the service no one has or talks about, are not aware of either of those extremely well-known films because they have dropped a trailer for a new movie on their streaming service called, what else, The Room.

???????

How original and not confusing.

A loving couple in their thirties, Matt and Kate, moves to a large secluded mansion in upstate New Hampshire, leaving the big city behind to seek a more authentic and healthy life. While repairing the old house, they find a mysterious hidden room and soon discover that the room is able to fulfill their great wishes.

Shudder’s version of The Room stars former Bond babe Olga Kurylenko in a mostly unglamorous role as a new homeowner and was directed by Christian Volckman, who has directed pretty much only films made in France.

The Ukrainian born Kurylenko was pretty hot stuff when she starred in Quantum of Solace. Though she was also in Oblivion with Tom Cruise, like most Bond babes before her she was never able to capitalize on the role, leaving Mila Kunis as the only real actress in Hollywood with Ukrainian blood in her.

The film tries to combine the “House With A Past” and “Wishes Gone Wrong” genres together. Though it appears to be well made, it doesn’t seem to add anything new.

I’ve kind of seen this before. It just reminds me of the monkey’s paw episode of The Simpsons. Whatever Olga does, she better not ask the room for a turkey sandwich. It’ll be a bit dry.

The Room begins streaming on Shudder this month.
