Sicario: Day of the Solado is a sequel to 2015 release Sicario which was directed by Denis Villeneuve(Arrival, Blade Runner 2049). This time around Stefano Sollima(Suburra) takes over directing duties for a film revolving around undercover operative Alejandro Gillick.

The original Sicario starred Emily Blunt(Kate Macer), Josh Brolin(Matt Graver), a pre-Get Out Daniel Kaluuya(Reggie Wayne) and Benicio del Toro as the aforementioned Gillick. It was a brutal look into the realities of the drug trade and the hopelessness the people involved with trying to stop the drugs from coming into the United States face.

Extremely well received for not only being a very good movie, but also for the performances as well.  Benicio’s performance stood out in particular as he was nominated for best supporting actor at several awards shows, including BAFTA and the Jupiter Film awards, while just missing out on an oscar nomination.

This time around the movie appears to be more of a straight up action flick about kidnapping, settling old scores, and former cold as ice hit men having more heart than we think. From the trailer it looks like the performances and action sequences should keep this movie from being a stale second entry.

Both del Toro and Brolin will be revisiting their respective roles from the first film and will be joined by Isabela Reyes (Isabela Moner) in the kidnapped daughter role. The movie is set to drop June 29th of this year.
