Third Time’s Still A Charm?

Sam Raimi is back with his second remake of the 2002 Japanese film Ju-on: The Grudge from director Takashi Shimizu.

Raimi first remade The Grudge in 2004 with Sarah Michelle Gellar and it was a massive, massive hit, making $187 million on a $10 million budget.

Yes, I am also confused as to why so many ManFans™ love your vampire show.

That movie spawned two sequels,  The Grudge 2 (2006) and The Grudge 3 (2009), which were both financially successful.

So why not go back to the well one more time?

This time around it’s underrated and undercast Korean-American actor John Cho starring as a realtor who discovers something really weird is going on with one of his listings.

At least we don’t have to deal with the “people move into scary house and stay” trope.

The trailer looks pretty good:

Speaking of undercast, it’s good to see Demián Bichir buddy-copping with Andrea Riseborough just like he did with Diane Kruger on The Bridge.

That show was decent for basic cable, yeah?

Let’s see what YouTube says:

  • “Bald people: THANK YOU JESUS😇👐👏”
  • “The great thing about this is, it is the men’s turn to get attacked in showers. (no homo)”
  • “Some people can grow fingers on their head and i can’t even grow hairs.”
  • “The Croaking sound is back. We’re in the right track people.”
  • “‘From a producer of…’ always fills me with extreme confidence in a movie.”

I don’t know, this looks OK for a date movie.

The Grudge tries to scare up an audience only in theaters January 3.
