OK, This Is More Like It
Hobbs & Shaw has taken the rubber bouncy ball universe of Fast & Furious and transformed it into what it always should have been: a straight-up action movie ripped from the 1990s.
Think Demolition Man or Con Air. With some 80s’ buddy-cop thrown in.
I’m not even going to ruin any of it for you, just jump right in:
Yeah.
What else could you possibly ask for? You’ve got:
- Enhanced meta-human Idris Ebla
- The Rock at his wise-cracking best
- The Stath at his smirking best
- Both of them talking endless smack
- Apache helicopters
- Punching people while falling off a building
- A dune buggy pulling a full inward twist
- Nuclear cooling towers
All directed by David Leitch, who made the incredible Deadpool 2. This looks like great big, silly fun in the stoopidest way possible.
It’s what Expendables should have been.
If you care at all, the official synopsis reads:
A spinoff of The Fate of the Furious, focusing on Johnson’s US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs forming an unlikely alliance with Statham’s Deckard Shaw.
On August 2, 2019, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw takes us back to when action movies were something to get excited about.
