James Bond’s CIA contact, frequent mission partner and friend may be set for a comeback in Bond 25.  Felix Leiter appeared in the first 007 adventure, Dr No.  Since that apppearance he has only ever been played by the same actor on two occasions.

Firstly, David Hedison took on the role in Live And Let Die opposite Roger Moore. Then reprised it 16 years later alongside a different Bond, Timothy Dalton, in Licence To Kill. Understandable as key parts of Licence To Kill were adapted directly from Fleming’s original Live And Let Die novel, including Felix’s shark encounter and Bond’s night time recce of the aquarium.

Then Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, the Hunger Games series) took on the role in Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace alongside Daniel Craig as 007.  He was also namechecked in Spectre.

If he was to return for a third time then it would be the first ever time an actor playing Leiter hit a hat-trick.

Anyone got a Leiter?

When Wright recently participated in a Reddit AMA session on Westworld a fan asked if he was to return.

He replied with a cagey “It’s possible. Thanks.” and moved swiftly on.  Fan speculation has then launched into overdrive, May asking why he didn’t just simply say “No” if he wasn’t involved, with Bond 25 production spinning up as we speak.

Ben Wishaw, Naomi Harris and Ralph Fiennes have also given similar evasive, non-committall answers recently when asked about Q, Moneypenny and M all returning.

So will Daniel Craig check out from the role with a full 007 family reunion?  Chances seem good.
