Robert Downey Jr. was on The Howard Stern Show a couple of days ago.
Who is Howard Stern? He’s like the AARP-endorsed version of Joe Rogan.
I am joking but man how are you supposed to catch a show that’s only on SiriusXM?
Anyways Stern brought up some of that “Oscar buzz” we always hear… buzzing. Since Joaquin Phoenix is considered a guaranteed nomination, why not RDJ?
Though I can’t imagine walking into an MCU movie after Endgame, RDJ must have quadriceps of steel after carrying the franchise for a decade.
Taking a chance on Iron Man! The studios taking a chance on him too!
But what does RDJ think about RDJ getting an Oscar?
“I’m so glad you brought this up because there was some talk about [an Oscar campaign for his work]. And I said, ‘Let’s not.'”
We should call him “Humble Jr.” I actually don’t think he wants it. The guy experienced a redemption arc never seen in Hollywood. I think he’s content with being rich and pursuing environmental hobbies.
Stern then brought up a spicy take dropped recently by Martin Scorsese.
“I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks.”
RDJ danced around responding to that one and said he respected his opinion greatly. How could you respond?
Either RDJ admits Scorsese is right and Disney puts 2 bullets in the back of his head, or he disagrees with the greatest living filmmaker and looks like a moron to anyone over the age of six.
I love Marvel movies. I love the energy in the theater whenever one comes out. Its a miracle we got so many big-budget comic book movies made in our lifetime.
But Robert Downey Jr. is a smart guy and not kidding himself.
