Mortal Kombat Casting News

The casting news is coming in thick and fast for the James Wan-produced Mortal Kombat.

First, it was Sub-Zero, then Liu Kang and now a trio of characters are getting actors.

I’ve never played the game, never seen the movie but writing these articles has made me kind of curious. So much so that I watched the six-part The History of Mortal Kombat video series by 616 Entertainment over on YouTube.

It’s excellent and I suggest you check it out.

I’ve also ordered a Sega Genesis and a copy of Mortal Kombat.

I’m gonna play the hell out this bitch once it comes in.

But enough about my hobbies, let’s get to the casting:

 Sisi Stringer Is Mileena

Sisi Stringer

Mileena was introduced in Mortal Kombat II and is one of two characters cast thus far to not appear in the first version of the game.

She usually wields dual sai and was a boss fight as well as a playable character. In the universe, she is the evil twin of Princess Kitana and is often portrayed as sadistic, unstable and homicidal.

This will be Australian Sisi Stringer’s second movie and her first appearance in a major studio picture in any capacity. This girl must have some serious acting chops!

Mehcad Brooks is Jax

Jackson “Jax” Briggs is another Mortal Kombat II introduction. He’s a US Special Forces soldier and is a fan-favorite being featured in almost every form of MK media including the two movies, comic books, the 1996 animated series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series and merch.

He teamed up with another franchise favorite, Sonya Blade, to found the Outerworld Investigation Agency (OIA), which maps the dimensional portals — a big part of MK lore — that could possibly lead demons and alien races to Earth.

I don’t know about this guy Brooks playing Jax. He’s got a round face. He looks soft. Way too young to be a real SFO operator.

Derek Luke would have better.

Or Terry Crews.

Tadanobu Asano is Raiden!

Everyone knows who Raiden is. Lightning dude. Can fly. Liu Kang’s mentor. Christopher Lambert played him in the first Mortal Kombat movie.

Asano has been acting for close to 30 years in Japan and is probably best known to genre fans for Thor and 47 Ronin.

This is great casting.

Dude just looks wise and venerable.

Man, I am almost tempted to go watch 1995’s Mortal Kombat.

Come on UPS, Where are you?
