Do you like Eric Andre?

He’s kind of an acquired taste. You either love him or hate him. I think The Eric Andre Show on Adult Swim has some of the best bizarre and random humor on television in years and a better talk show than anything the major networks are doing.

Well, now Andre is bringing his act to theaters in Bad Trip, which is being pushed as the new successor to the Jackass films.

Two best friends go on a cross-country road trip full of hilarious, inventive pranks, pulling its real-life audience into the mayhem.

Joining Eric Andre on his trip are Lil Rel Howery and Tiffany Haddish. It does not feature Hannibal Buress from the show though.

The film is a mix of unscripted pranks pulled on unsuspecting individuals all strung together with scripted scenes in between them to form some sort of coherent story. It features a lot of the gross out and over the top situations Andre is known for on his show.

Even though the marketing for the film makes it clear this film is from the producers of Jackass, it’s actually more in line with Sasha Baron Cohen films like Borat and Bruno. In fact Andre screened the film for Cohen after he completing it for his feedback.

If you’re into Andre’s show you’ll probably like this film. It’s always nice to see people enjoying themselves while creating mayhem.

Originally it was supposed to be released this past fall, but its release date has been changed a number of times. Normally that’s not a good sign, but it was scheduled to premiere at this year’s South By Southwest festival before it was cancelled because of the coronavirus.

Bad Trip debuts in theaters April 17.
