We saw the teaser a few months ago. Now the hacks behind that teaser have given us a trailer. “Trailer” really is a strong word to throw around Doom Annihilation because this thing is maybe 30 seconds long.
The story sounds like Doom:
Follows a group of UAC Marines as they respond to a distress call from a top-secret scientific base on Phobos, a Martian moon, only to discover it’s been overrun by demons who threaten to create Hell on Earth.
Somehow that became this:
The director Tony Giglio has made some sub-5-star trash but he’s also written and directed a couple of movies with decent ratings on IMDb:
- Chaos (6.5/10), a crime drama with Jason Statham, Ryan Phillippe and — fuck me — Wesley Snipes!
- In Enemy Hands (6.0/10), a submarine movie with William H. Macy.
Both those movies were released straight to video back in 2005.
And then it went downhill fast for Mr. Giglio. If you want to see how far, how fast just check out the teaser for Doom Annihilation, in case you missed it.
What is with these 30-second trailers?
Now check out how you really do a Doom movie:
Man, can that guy do hardcore and ruthless effortlessly!
It’s really hard to believe that Karl Urban has been around since at least 2002 and he’s still not become a huge star.
Let’s hope that all changes after The Boys.
Doom Annihilation is coming straight to VOD on October 1, 2019.
I think I’m going to download Chaos.
Will report back.
