Why Nicolas Flamel appears in Fantastic Beasts is confounding!

TLDR: Nicolas Flamel made a much anticipated and appreciated cameo appearance in Fantastic Beasts 2. Why? We have no idea, but we’re hoping that over time we see more of his character in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts 3 and possibly even beyond.

For anyone who is a die hard fan, they were un-doubtedly excited to find out that Nicolas Flamel appears in Fantastic Beasts, even if they were saying his name wrong the whole time.

Why?

Because he is the creator of the Philosophers stone. A legendary alchemical substance capable of creating the Elixer of life, thus rendering those who drink it immortal – or so says J.K Rowling.

For anyone who has read the Harry potter books, they are very familiar with this stone as it is the only one in existence, created by none other than the famed alchemist Nicolas Flammel.

But how does this all tie into Fantastic Beasts the Crimes of Grindelwald?

Spoiler Alert

Nicolos Flamel appears in Fantastic Beasts towards the crescendo of the film due to his home being a safe-haven for Newt and Jacob. While it was quite frankly pretty cool to see another character mentioned in the previous Harry potter books, the appearance felt squandered and misdirected.

How so?

Well for starters, any fan of the Wizarding World would inherently assume that if you were going to introduce such a notable character, you would make sure that they have a significant role in the plot. On the contrary with this cameo.

Nicolos Flamel appears in Fantastic beasts and then disappears almost as abruptly with little more than a vision of death and destruction in Newt and Jacob’s path. The only problem is – in a world of transfiguration and teleportation, he shows up late to caution them.

Now, I’m not sure about you guys, but I felt that the whole appearance and timeline of events for such a famous Wziard was just off – especially if this was to be his only advent and appearance in the series.

My personal guess would be that his appearance is a foreshadowing to later involvement in the series down the line, and he may even help Dumbledore to get out of the once-made blood pact with the notorious Dark Wizard, Grindlewald.

All in all, that’s all we can surmise, as the movie its self doesn’t give us much to go on. This is not uncommon however and as we mention in our Fantastic Beasts 2 Review, this film has always felt like more of a segue than an actual installment in the series.

I would love to hear any other theories out there on why Nicolas Flamel Appears in Fantastic Beasts
