Hey man, remember the 80s?

The filmmakers behind the new horror-comedy (PG) Psycho Goreman sure hope you do. The 80s homage is made in the style of some of your favorite monster movies of that decade.

Siblings Mimi and Luke unwittingly resurrect an ancient alien overlord. Using a magical amulet, they force the monster to obey their childish whims and accidentally attract a rogues’ gallery of intergalactic assassins to small-town suburbia.

Psycho Goreman is directed by Steven Kostanski, who also made the 2016 horror film The Void and doesn’t feature anyone you would recognize, which isn’t a problem when everyone is just going to wind up getting killed anyway.

One of the things that all good horror films have in common is a recognizable villain like Jason or Freddy Krueger who you want to cheer for and Psycho Goreman seems to fit the bill nicely.

It looks like a lot of fun and it’s nice to see a movie that uses some well done old-school practical effects instead of nonstop CGI.

Why don’t they make stuff like this anymore?

Everything you would expect from an 80s movie is here. It even has Psycho Goreman rockin’ out on the drums. More more could you people want?

(PG) Psycho Goreman will play at this year’s SXSW festival. It does not seem to have an official release date yet, so for now, it’s just coming soon.
