Has watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation twenty times on TV this December left you with a craving for more of the Griswold family?

Well, have we got news for you! HBO Max has just announced they are developing a series based on the Vacation film franchise for the small screen, The Griswolds.

The series will revolve around what was the Chevy Chase led Griswold family, though no word on who in the clan it will focus on this time.

Johnny Galecki, who played Rusty Griswold in Christmas Vacation, will be coming back to the franchise, but as one of the show’s producers. It is unknown at this point if he will also play Rusty.

If he does play Rusty, it would be the first time in the entire history of the franchise that one of the actors who played either Rusty or Audrey Griswold was not recast for the next iteration of the characters.

Also unknown is if Chevy Chase or Beverly D’Angelo will return as Clark and Ellen Griswold. If they do, at this point in their lives it would be impossible for them to play anything but grandparents to whoever the main characters are.

The first film in the franchise, National Lampoon’s Vacation is one of the 80’s iconic comedies and established Beverly D’Angelo as one of America’s greatest MILFs.

It’s sequel, European Vacation, was meh at best, but then Christmas Vacation redeemed the franchise and is one of the classic modern Christmas movies.

It’s follow-ups, Vegas Vacation and the 2015 franchise reboot are not things fans of the series like to be mentioned around them.

No word on when the show is set to debut on the network.
